Grand Opening Of WIP (Shelter) With Behrouz This Saturday

So awesome to see more clubs opening up in New York.  Behrouz posted on his Facebook page that he will be playing this Saturday at the grand opening of WIP in lower Manhattan.  The club is part of the old Shelter space on Varick St. which three years ago was turned into hotspot Greenhouse (I guess it’s a hot spot if you’re into the bottle service stuff).  The club is actually a separate part of the building though which allows for both clubs to have their parties at the same time.  From what we were told in an email, the party is absolutely focused on the music and not on how deep your pockets are, so we hope that the club promoters and owners stay true to their words.  What this club has going for it that most don’t is that it is on a busy street on the edge of Tribeca that is a block in any direction from residential buildings.  Below is a picture of the main dancefloor:

Timmy Regisford had his pre-opening Shelter party last weekend with guest Junior Vasquez playing in the other (there is a third) room in the club, and the responses we heard were favorable.  The usual pre-opening jitters and mishaps, but nothing too out of sorts.  We’re still searching around to see who did the sound yet so no word on that.  Sure to be a great party if you’re in New York this weekend so check it out if you don’t have plans.  Behrouz has been one of our favorite DJ’s for years, and he’s also a great guy, so it’s going to be rocking.

PS: Please note this is not a Shelter party.  That is the name of the party that Timmy Regisford runs.  We just put Shelter in the topic to give people an idea of where this new space was (since it is in the same building that Shelter used to be in).  Both photos courtesy of Behrouz‘s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/BEHROUZ

It’s focused on the music and not how deep your pockets are? Is that why in this Craigslist as it says WIP is going to be “the most exclusive lounge” with “New York’s key players all vying for entry”??

we went saturday… couldnt get in. security was a bunch of jerks and the only people getting in were groups of 8 girls in mini skirts who didnt speak english. waste of time.

Nokturnalist, If you have been in the dance scene this long you should be much more cynical when it comes to the agendas of new “dance clubs”!!!

Hey Frank, we appreciate the comments. We were just relaying information from an email we had received. Like other people, we were also stuck outside on line and could not get in.

We had also heard favorable things about the Timmy Regisford/Junior Vasquez party the weekend before, so we were working off that.

Unfortunately it looks like Saturday nights will be a bottle service type place.

Funny, because we managed to get in, 3 guys and 4 of our female friends. All you see in this place is broke russian girls (beautiful nonetheless), trying to find suggar daddys. And it is all about the $$$$ bottle service, not the music as they are trying to portrait. The real “dance” clubs do not exist anymore . for those of you old enough think about Red Zone back in the days. Now is about who will charge the most for the $25 bottle of Vodka and who gets the most Russian escorts in the door to attract the wealthy, ugly, out of shape wall street or trust fund babies. We saw a advanced age guy with 3 out of this world beautiful, gorgeous girls that look like there were 40 years his junior.jjjajaja .

    will never go back
