No Sugar Added At Winter Music Week

No Sugar Added is back at Winter Music Week in Miami for its 4th year and the party has packed a lot of great talent into two days at Nikki Beach.  The party will take place on Friday, March 23rd and Saturday, March 24th at the newly revamped Nikki Beach and the lineup is pretty solid (and by solid we mean, not a clusterfuck of David Guetta/Avicii/AVB etc… (*cough* Ultra *cough*)).  We’ve never been to Nikki Beach (we tried sneaking in during WMC 2004 after it was over capacity but that didn’t go so well) but we’d imagine it’s expanded if they’re having four stages each day. Ultra Music Festival Presents New Film “Can U Feel It”

We’ll be the first to admit that the Ultra Music Festival in Miami is not our cup of tea.  Most of the acts are of the trance and mainstream type, so if it were up to us, we’d rather be at DEMF, but we certainly do give credit for all the things Ultra has done for the dance music community.  In the 12 years since its formation, Ultra has turned into a 45 headed monster and has really brought main stream dance music to the forefront here in America.  The festival sold out months before the Winter Music Conference even started in 2011 and ended up having over 150,000 people attend over the course of three days.  Pretty amazing when you think about those numbers given 7 or 8 years ago, dance music in America was laughed at and still considered underground. Burning Man Implements Lottery System

Burning man (from what we hear) is something that you have to experience at least once in your life.  Unfortunately for some, that may never happen.  The festival organizers announced this week that in order to combat scalping, they have implemented a lottery system in order to purchase tickets.  The festival, which started 26 years ago, sold out this year for the first time in its history.  The email came from their Burning Man newsletter “Jack Rabbit Speaks” (which believe it or not, is still a simple listserv like we all used in the 90′s).  The festival organizers in the meantime are trying to work with the city of Black Rock (where the festival is held) to get new permits that would allow for 55,000 people (last year saw 54,000) and hopefully, to raise it to over 75k in the next few years.

Some people voiced concerns about the lottery system (most were negative) about some of the pitfalls of a lottery; specifically, if ten friends get tickets and 4 do not, you can’t go as a group.  They’ll be a registration period later this year where people can enter, and if chosen, they’ll be asked for credit card info and the tier they’d be willing to pay.  After the selections are weeded out, the lottery begins and those lucky enough will be selected for tickets.  Honestly though, we don’t see anyone having an issue getting a ticket this year.  This lottery may turn off some people, which would leave room for others to purchase tickets.  We’ll see…

Grand Opening Of WIP (Shelter) With Behrouz This Saturday

So awesome to see more clubs opening up in New York.  Behrouz posted on his Facebook page that he will be playing this Saturday at the grand opening of WIP in lower Manhattan.  The club is part of the old Shelter space on Varick St. which three years ago was turned into hotspot Greenhouse (I guess it’s a hot spot if you’re into the bottle service stuff).  The club is actually a separate part of the building though which allows for both clubs to have their parties at the same time.  From what we were told in an email, the party is absolutely focused on the music and not on how deep your pockets are, so we hope that the club promoters and owners stay true to their words.  What this club has going for it that most don’t is that it is on a busy street on the edge of Tribeca that is a block in any direction from residential buildings.  Below is a picture of the main dancefloor: Read more »

Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival November 11th And 12th

So who needs the Detroit Electronic Music Festival when you have one right in Brooklyn?  Just kidding of course, but as the stories topic reads, Brooklyn will be having its version of DEMF in Williamsburg on the 11th and 12th.  The two festivals though sharing a similar name, are separate entities ran by different groups.  The festival will take over a few different venues along the Williamsburg strip including Public Assembly, Brooklyn Bowl, and the Music Hall of Williamsburg.  The BEMF is hosted by MeanRed, who throw a lot of big name parties in the city year round (including a bunch mentioned on this site over the years).  Brooklyn has long been becoming a replacement for a lot of party goers sick of the nonsense of clubbing in the city.  Since Giuliani completed his quality of life campaign, a lot of clubs have closed forcing party organizers to think of locations outside the small island for their events.   There are a lot of great, larger buildings perfect for gatherings in BK that are away from residential areas, so the noise and crowd isn’t a factor the way it is in Manhattan.  The website gives a brief blurb about the event… Read more »

Stereo Nightclub Celebrates 12 Years This Month

To die hard dance music fans, Stereo has become a sorts of second home for those close enough to visit it.  Created in Montreal by Angel Moraes in 1999, Stereo is considered the best night club in North America by most simply because it puts music first.  The DJ booth is well laid out, the analog sound system is warm, and the vibe is generally that of a welcoming group, even if you have never been.  In 2009 the club had a serious fire that closed it for almost a year (which was ruled arson), and even after rebuilding, the club had a second fire.  The fires though have only made the heart of Stereo grow larger and the club again hosts some of the best talent in the world on a weekly basis.  Stereo celebrates 12 years this month, with 4 weekends of great parties with Nic Fanciulli, Dubfire, Nicole Moudaber, Peter Rauhofer, Victor Calderone, and more.  The parties run through the last week of November, so if you haven’t been to Stereo yet, now is the time.  And a heartfelt congrats from all of us here goes out to Stereo on 12 great years, and here is to 12 more.  http://www.stereo-nightclub.com/

Electric Daisy Carnival 2012 Pre-Sales Announced

What has turned into one of the biggest festivals in the U.S. is expected to be the largest yet come next year.  Electric Daisy Carnival has put up pre-sales tickets for their 2012 event in Las Vegas on their website.  The 2011 event, which was moved from L.A., saw an average of 75,000 people a day and this year they expect it to grow to over 100,000.  If you’re thinking about attending, grabbing pre-sales is probably a really good idea since last years event sold out.  Click the link for info.
