Red Bull’s Music Academy does a fireside chat with Murk. We’ve been all MURK lately here and who says that’s a bad thing?

Red Bull’s Music Academy Talks To MURK
Fabric Talks To Visionquest
Great interview of Seth Troxler and Lee Curtis by the folks over at Fabric this week. Excerpt:
How far do you think you can coast by on good looks and charm?
Great question! When I look in the mirror I say wow, it’s all over, but then I look at you Lee and realize I’ve got loads of time…What are two things a dude should never say to another dude?
How does my lipstick look, and, can you shave my back… though Lee you’re guilty of that second one.Do you believe you could inflate a dog with helium and float him on the end of a string?
I love animals so I would never think of doing such a thing. I do however reckon I could easily fill up a hot air ballon with bullshit and fly it to the moon.Should DJs have a salary caps like baseball players?
I think DJs should be grateful for the blessings that they have been granted and give back in different ways.

Toni Tambourine Talks To Scarlett Etienne
Toni Tambourine of Listen-Up PR was good enough to send us an interview they did recently with New York native Scarlett Etienne. Scarlett used to be a resident DJ at the Soundfactory and Sullivan Room (where we caught her a few times along with an opening gig she did for Sasha at Matter a few years ago in London). As the years have past, she has catapulted into the forefront of the European dance scene headlining gigs all over the place including spending summers in Ibiza. She recently did the Big Questions section for DJ Mag, and also did a super kick ass RA Podcast (RA 013) a few years ago for Resident Advisor that we still listen to. Read on for the interview. Skream Talks To The Quietus
We’ll be the first to admit we used to love dubstep, but a lot of the stuff coming out there now is just plain questionable. Some of it is just complete and utter shit, but there are always bright spots to every genre, and one of those is Skream. Midnight Request Line is hands down the best dubstep track we’ve ever heard (and probably ever will). Skream is still very active and still releasing on the regular as well as keeping up with his fans on his Facebook and Twitter pages. The Quetus sat down with Skream to talk to him about Skrillex, and why people who sit online bitching about how dubstep is dead need to find something better to do with themselves.
Joonbug Talks To Rob Fernandez About Promoting In New York
Rob Fernandez has been promoting in New York for as long as most of us have been going out. I remember signing up for his guestlist when he was the ONLY guestlist you could get on at Club Vinyl (besides Tenaglia’s of course) back when. I also remember the insanely entertaining message board he had on his website which was one of the most entertaining boards back then. Rob is still one of the biggest promoters in New York running the Dance Here Now party with Benny Soto as well as being the musical directory at Pacha NYC. Joonbug caught up with him to talk about what its like to work the nightlife circuit in NYC, and plans he has for 2012.

Danny Tenaglia Talks to Elektro Daily
Seems DT has been doing more and more interviews as of late (certainly a shift from his earlier years at Twilo/Tunnel/Vinyl). In this round he talks about dubstep, the digital DJ world, and his upcoming gig at the BPM festival. Check it out here.
Seth Troxler Talks To Defected About Drugs, Marriage, And Visionquest
There is no denying that Seth Troxler is on an absolute tear this year. Along with his three comrades, Visionquest has been putting out some of the best music we’ve heard in a long time to go along with a hectic touring schedule. Defected was able to sit down with Seth and ask him about how he manages it all, his impending marriage to his long time girlfriend, his sometimes odd behavior in the spotlight, and more. He also talks about how drugs shaped his musical tastes and talents: Read more »
Oscar G Keeping It Real
We posted last week about MURK’s new release Amame, but there has been some other chatter around the interwebz not about Oscar G’s music, but his comments. Oscar was recently interviewed by Miami New Times about his thoughts on how the dance music scene has changed over the years (the guy definitely has enough street cred to give his opinion on this one). The question specifically was:
As a long-standing Miami DJ, how do you feel the EDM scene has changed in the last decade? Do you think we have the potential of becoming a true dance music mecca, and not just during WMC?
And his answer? Read more »
10 Years Of Fabric Records
Ten years ago this week, Fabric decided to jump into the record business and create compilations put together by the DJ’s that frequented their club. Well, ten years later they’re still going strong, and at this point we some times lose track of what number the Fabric series is up to, but one thing remains true, they’re always good no matter who puts them out. Fabric spoke to some of the DJ’s about their mixes and what Fabric means to them. Read more »
Faithfanzine Talks To Tony Humphries About New York
You gotta love Tony. This guy was the DJ’s DJ before most of us were able to walk. He’s put out more hits than the 1997 Yankees and continues to work hard to this very day. Tony was a resident at Club Zanzibar in New Jersey in the 80′s; a club that never gets its props because it was not in Manhattan. Tony also had a radio show on Kiss FM running through the 80′s after Shep Pettibone had moved on to other things (including some seminal remixes for the likes of Madonna). Tony to most though is known for what we read are some of the best clubbing nights ever at the Ministry of Sound with DJ’s like David Morales and Larry Levan. But Tony has never ever lost his roots in New York and continues to play here consistently. We found a great interview with Tony done earlier this year by Faithfanzine where he talks about why New York is NOT dead (a phrase that is just wrong). Head over to the interview by clicking here.
