MK – House Masters Review

Layout 1 (Page 3)

If you were around dance clubs in the mid 90′s, then you know MK.  He was behind some of the biggest tracks and remixes of that decade, including Burning and the awesome remix of India’s “I Can’t Get No Sleep.”  Most of these tracks were released on vinyl, but unless you bought the vinyl back then, there is a good chance most copies are not in the best shape these days.  Luckily Defected brought MK on to re-release some of his best work in a double compilation entitled “House Masters.”

This review is a bit different than the other reviews we do for the simple fact that this release doesn’t have much new content.  All of the material is from years past, but the beauty of it is that you can now have a great sounding copy of some of the biggest bombs of the past 20 years.  If you take a look at this track listing, it’s amazing how many great remixes and original tracks Marc released.  If you were dancing back then, or are a new DJ looking to get into the old house sounds that have re-emerged from DJ’s like Seth Troxler, then this is a must have.  Make sure you pick it up.

(No rating on this one as it is primarily a compilation of older tracks).  You can pick it up by clicking here.

10 Best Compilations Of 2011

Wow, is it really almost 2012?  I mean I know they say time flies, but at this rate we’ll be 70 before we know it.  2011 was one of the best years for music in a while.  If I think back to two, three, even four years ago, there weren’t too many memorable tracks or compilations that would jump out at me.  But 2012 saw the re-emergence of down to earth, simple, good ass house music.  And while genres like dubstep really took off, it was compilations from the likes of Lawrence, Deetron, Henry Saiz, and Robag Wruhme that caught our ears and reminded us how much fun this music is.  Let’s get to the list shall we: Read more »

Balance 20 – Deetron Review

Oh Balance how we love thee… We promised ourselves we’d stop using the world “journey” when we review compilations.  The whole concept of a journey has been so misconstrued that no one even knows what the hell that really means anymore.  Instead, we just try to review music for what it is, and not what we think it should be, or use some shitty generic words in an attempt to fill up as much space as possible (as if this were a 11th grade writing assignment).  In keeping with that, we thought it proper to review one of our favorite Mix series newest release out today (Tuesday).  Deetron may not be known as well as Ricardo Villalobos or Sven Vath, but the guy has been putting out kick ass records since the early 2000′s.  He may not have released 30 records a year, but he’s had tracks on Intec, Green, and Rejected, and that doesn’t include his aliases.  Even Digweed commented on “listening to this guy for as long as I can remember” when Deetron did his guest mix for John’s Transitions show two weeks ago.  So needless to say, we were super stoked when we heard he was putting together number 20 for Balance.  So of course, it only made sense for us to break it down here.  Shall we? Henry Saiz - Balance 019

At Nokturnalist we don’t normally toot the horn of too many in the dance music world, most because their work speaks for itself.  In an already over flooded market of DJ’s and producers, it’s often hard to weed out the talent because of the vast amount of electronic music available on digital dance music sites.  There is no need for us to introduce Henry Saiz to most of you reading this.  Read more »
