Formed in 2000 in the U.K., Hot Chip has exploded in the dance music scene playing sold out venues weekly, and canning some of the most eclectic mixes in recent memory. The band, consisting of members Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Owen Clarke, Felix Martin, Al Doyle, ignite dance floors using some of the newest technology available playing massive festivals to tens and thousands. You might think, with five members, how could they all possibly contribute to a two CD mix?
The mix, entitled Hot Chip – A Bugged Out Mix is a two CD mixed compilation featuring tracks from artists such as Extrawelt, Pig & Dan, Mark Romboy, and more. CD one is very techno driven; starting slow and building up to something worthy of even the most critical techno elitist. Tracks from Conrad Schnitzler and John Tejada really bring out the true colors of this disk and while we wouldn’t consider this the best mix CD of the year, we will say that this one is great for a long drive on a weekend, or in the iPod as you groove out at the gym.
CD 2 though is another story. The second CD is aimed at the more disco side of Hot Chip that has often made them popular. The problem is that some of the track selection was great, and others not so great. While we certainly applaud their eclectic taste, we though tracks like Fleetwood Mac’s Love In Store and Eddie Stone’s Bring It on Home to Me really didn’t have a place on a mix that at first was a tech symphony, and ended up going off the rails.
