The New York Post caught up with Michael Alig, Peter Gatien’s daughter, Steve Lewis and others to reminisce about the Limelight ahead of the Limelight movie DVD release on Tuesday. Not much else to say about the Limelight that hasn’t already been said here, but it’s always fun to hear stories from the people who lived them. Peter Gatien, Limelight & The Party In Clubland
Ztouch Magazine has a good article on everyone’s favorite 90′s club promoter Peter Gatien. We’ve spoken about Peter many times here before so we won’t get into it again, but this article goes into great detail about Peter’s life in New York in the late 80′s through late 90′s. It also talks in detail from Peter himself about how he ran the clubs, including not drinking or partying at all while working. The Limelight movie comes out later this month in the U.S.
Billy Corben’s Limelight The Movie
In club land, we always hear of people making documentatries about the clubs they used to visit. Whether it’s Tunnel, Palladium, World, Twilo, and on and on, nothing ever comes of it. Billy Corben has changed that though with his retrospect on Limelight. The club, which in its heyday of the late 80′s to mid 90′s was the epicenter of NY club culture, was eventually shuttered in 2002 even though it had a re-incarnation as Avalon in its elder years (which didn’t fare too well). By the end of the 90′s, Giuliani and the rest of the NYPD had caught on that the clubs head honcho Peter Gaiten was hiding money under the table from the government and was allowing drugs to be dealt in his club while turning a blind eye (no pun).
